Grab your closest girlfriends and head out to Fredericksburg, Texas.  Fredericksburg is just a little over 4 hours from Houston.  The town is home to many festivals throughout the year like the Gillespie County Fair and the Wildflower Celebration.  There are many venues around town that have nightly entertainment with music, dancing, and karaoke.  A must-see when visiting Fredericksburg is Wine Road 290.  With over 15 Texas award-winning wineries along US Highway 290, it’s the perfect place to catch up with friends over a glass of red or white.

Families traveling from Houston should check out a weekend getaway to Galveston, Texas.  The whole family will love spending the day at the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier.  The pier is home to shopping, dining, and amusement rides right on the water.  For beach time, Stewart Beach was named One of the 10 Best Beaches for Families by Family Vacation Critic.  The beach offers volleyball, concessions, and lifeguards on duty while swimming in the ocean.  If visiting during the summer months, head over to East Beach for live concerts and the popular AIA Sandcastle Competition held the first weekend in June.

Austin, Texas is another great location for families to visit from Houston.  The drive is only 2 hours and 40 minutes away from Houston, so you’ll get there in no time at all.  Once you arrive, explore the outdoors at Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail.  There are 10 miles of trails to explore bordering Lady Bird Lake.  If you find your way to Zilker Park, be sure to bring your bathing suit to take a dip in the Barton Springs Pool.  This man-made pool is filled by water the 4th largest spring in Texas, the Main Barton Spring.  South Congress Avenue, more commonly known as SoCo District is a hip place to check out at the end of the day.  The area offers restaurants, eclectic shops, boutiques, and galleries.

For a romantic trip for 2, check out the beautiful city of San Antonio, Texas.  The drive is short at a little over 3 hours from Houston.  The area is home to the famous River Walk along the San Antonio River.  After a day spent out on the town exploring The Alamo or the San Antonio Botanical Gardens, take in an evening show at the Majestic Empire Theatre.  The upcoming calendar for the theatre features everything from comedians to plays and musicians.

Eureka Springs, Arkansas is another great getaway for couples looking to travel.  The charm of the town can be seen in its Victorian architecture and quaint Historic District downtown.  The streets are lined with art galleries and other unique boutiques for a day spent shopping.  Here at Arsenic and Old Lace, our 5 bedroom Queen Anne Victorian style mansion is tucked away in the Ozark hills for some much-needed peace and quiet.  Sleep under the trees in our Tree Top Suite or enjoy your morning coffee from the privacy of your balcony in the Chantily Rose Room.  Rise and shine each morning to a complimentary gourmet breakfast.  We would love to host you on your next weekend getaway from Houston.  For reservation information, give us a call at 479-253-5454.
