The Memorial Day holiday will be celebrated this year on Monday, May 30th.  As America takes the weekend to honor and remember those who have served in the armed forces, it is also recognized as the unofficial kickoff to summer.  Here in Eureka Springs, the end of May is the perfect time to visit the area.  From the warmer weather to the many local attractions, check out our guide to the best Memorial Day weekend getaways.

Avoid the crowded feel of a hotel and relax in a cozy B&B.  Eureka Springs is home to quite a few mansion turned bed and breakfast inns.  Arsenic and Old Lace is just the place to relax on Memorial Day weekend.  With 5 guest rooms, a wrap-around veranda and beautiful gardens on the hills of the Ozark Mountains, it’s the quiet retreat you need to unwind and kick up your feet.  Arsenic and Old Lace can be found on Hillside Avenue which is just 2 blocks from all the action in the Historic District.  Each morning at the B&B begins with a gourmet breakfast sure to get your day started off on the right foot.

After a good night’s rest and a delicious breakfast, check out a few of the attractions the town has to offer.  May is the opening month of The Great Passion Play.  Rated as America’s #1 Attended Outdoor Drama, the Great Passion Play retells the greatest story ever told.  With over 150 costumed actors, live animals, and special effects, the show is a must-see.  It’s not hard to enjoy the outdoor recreation when visiting Eureka Springs.  Eureka Springs is surrounded by 3 lakes and 2 rivers making it the ideal spot for boating, kayaking or fishing.  Take a hike at the local Lake Leatherwood City Park or simply stroll the streets of downtown searching for the dozen springs around the area from which the town was named.

You can’t kick off the summer season without a fabulous weekend of food.  The Historic District in Eureka Springs has everything from pizza to steaks and even Eureka Springs Best Burger.  If you’re looking for great views, check out Sky Bar Gourmet Pizza at the Crescent Hotel.  This restaurant overlooks Eureka Springs at the highest point in the county.  You can’t beat the amazing views and the great pizza at this local favorite.  Another hotspot is The Balcony Bar and Restaurant at the Basin Spring Hotel.  The outdoor balcony of the restaurant overlooks Spring Street downtown.  Grab one of their signature daiquiris and an appetizer and enjoy the peaceful view.

When visiting for Memorial Day weekend, the town of Eureka Springs will be finishing up their May Festival of the Arts.  The entire month of May is dedicated to all things art and artists because of the more than 250 working artists that live in the area.  During May Festival of the Arts, you’ll enjoy exhibits, music, artist receptions and the popular White Street Studio Walk.

Some of the best Memorial Day weekend getaways include some much-needed rest and relaxation.  Indulge in a spa weekend here in Eureka Springs on your getaway this May.  The Spa at Grand Central Hotel offers many relaxing services including couples massages, hot stone massage, and a classic Swedish massage.  In addition to massage, they offer facials, body wraps, and foot soaks.  The Crescent Hotel even has a destination spa: New Moon Spa.  Treat yourself to a manicure/pedicure, body treatment, massage or facial.
