How to Plan the Best Weekend Getaways in the South

Planning weekend getaways in the south can be summed up in 3 words: bed and breakfast.  Nothing says rest and relaxation like a cozy and inviting B&B in the south.  Here at Arsenic and Old Lace, we have all the makings of the best weekend getaways in the south right here in Eureka Springs.  And to top it all off, we provide a gourmet breakfast every morning.  Arsenic and Old Lace is like a home away from home.

When you pull up to our beautiful Queen Anne Victorian style mansion, you will notice we are tucked away from it all with the hills of the Ozarks setting the tone for peace and quiet.  Sip your morning coffee or an evening glass of wine on our wrap around veranda overlooking the lush gardens on the property.  We offer 5 guest rooms each with seasonal fireplace and large whirlpool.  With the chilly weather upon us, it’s the perfect season to curl up in your robe and unwind.

Eureka Springs is a wonderful destination for a weekend getaway.  There are plenty of attractions around town for families like Turpentine Creek or The Great Passion Play, and even things for couples to enjoy like an evening show at Intrigue Theater or live entertainment at one of the many downtown restaurants.  If you’ve never been but are looking to visit, request our free Vacation Guide for all the best information on what Eureka Springs has to offer!

The south is home to plenty of small towns for a weekend getaway.  About 4 hours south of Eureka Springs is the town of Hot Springs, Arkansas.  The town is named for the 47 natural springs that flow from Hot Springs Mountain.  There are festivals held throughout the year including the Hot Springs Music Festival in June and the Hot Springs Documentary Festival held every October.  Spend the day exploring the Ouachita Mountains or on a riverboat ride cruising Lake Hamilton.  Return after an adventurous day to a Hot Springs B&B and your weekend will feel complete.

One of the great things about planning a getaway to the south is that there is never a bad time to visit.  All seasons are special in their own way.  Right now in Eureka Springs, a getaway to the region will show you beautiful fall scenery in the mountains, fall festivals to attend like the yearly War Eagle Craft Fair 45-minutes away and the Eureka Springs Food and Wine Festival held in November.  And don’t miss the 2nd Gallery Stroll that happens the second Saturday of each month through December.  At these special events, galleries open their doors from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm for artist receptions and special art viewings with light refreshments.

Now that you know how to plan the best weekend getaway, all you have to do is get here and we’ll take care of the rest.  Arsenic and Old Lace is located on Hillside Avenue, 2 blocks from downtown.  To book a reservation, call us at 479-253-5454 or visit our website to check availability or view the current specials.  Get away from it all and come stay with us here at our romantic B&B.
