Arsenic & Old Lace Celebrates National Ice Tea Month

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Arsenic & Old Lace is celebrating the Seventh Annual National Iced Tea Month.  Being in the south, iced tea is really taken for granted.  However, iced tea was created in America nearly 100 years ago, so perhaps it’s only fitting that ours is the only country where the majority of tea is enjoyed cold. In fact, iced tea was invented because visitors to the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair were not interested in drinking hot tea on a hot day … so quick-thinking English tea merchant Richard Blechynden added ice, and the rest is history.

There are many benefits to drinking iced tea, in addition to just tasting great!

  • Tea has naturally occurring plant compounds that may play a role in helping the body fight certain cancers, assist with cholesterol, and support a healthy immune system.
  • Black and green have stronger antioxidant properties than many fruits and vegetables.  Antioxidants assist in limiting the development of chronic illnesses as cancer of heart disease.
  • Tea contains approximately the same amount of fluoride as fluoridated water and may help support healthy tooth enamel.
  • Lastly, drinking tea plays a significant role in maintaining fluid balance, which is crucial for normal body function.

Have you had your iced tea today?

Eureka Springs Romantic Garden Getaway April & May

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Mother nature helped to prune some of our trees this Winter with a lovely ice storm. As a result, we have much more sunlight to share with our perennial garden. If you enjoy gardening this special is just for you (and your loved one)! During April and May bring some plants that you would like to share with Arsenic and Old Lace and you will get three nights for the price of two when traveling Monday through Thursday. Or, if you decide to visit Friday thru Sunday and stay two evenings, you will receive a 15% discount. And oh yes, you will be able to plant the perennials also!
So you ask, which plants will work best? Plants that can thrive in shade/partial shade, drought tolerant, and most important deer resistant! Examples of plants that would work well include Globe Thistle, Coneflower, Columbine, Red Hot Poker, Lilly-of-the-Valley, and many others! Additionally, we will add your name to our “Donors Corner” and provide loving care for your donated perennial for its lifespan.
Break out your gardening gloves and visit us in March and April!
