Horseback Riding Through the Ozarks

March 27th, 2012
Spring in the Ozarks, Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast.

The Dogwood, great harbinger of spring.

The mountains come alive in the spring, and one of the best ways to experience this magnificent renewal of life is to go horseback riding through the Ozarks.

Trail rides through the Ozarks leave daily from Bear Mountain Riding Stables. Experienced guides share stories as well as riding tips, opening up the rich history of the region to anyone willing to listen. Rides generally last an hour, and are open to novices as well as expert riders.

Riders should keep an eye out for wildflowers and flowering trees. Redbuds are one of the first trees to blossom in the Ozarks, delighting us with their purple and lavender blossoms in late March and early April. Flowering Dogwoods follow them, usually peaking in mid to late April. Deliciously fragrant Wild Plums also bloom early.

Many wildflowers are already blooming in the garden of our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast. After your horseback ride, relax on our porch with a glass of wine, surrounded by the fragrance of spring.

Honeymoon in Eureka Springs

March 20th, 2012

The most important aspect of a honeymoon is that you spend it with your new spouse. You want to be someplace pretty and romantic. You want lots of time to be together as you embark on your new life together.

Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast honeymoon

The enchanting Tree-Top Suite.

These days, many people are opting to stay relatively close to home for their honeymoons. Rather than jetting to Hawaii or Paris, they’re driving to wonderful small towns like Eureka Springs. After all, a couple of tanks of gas are much more reasonably priced than airline tickets; this leaves more money for other things, like a longer honeymoon.

The Tree-Top Suite and all of the rooms of our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast are ideal for newlyweds. Our Tree-Top Suite is perched at the top of the inn, and guests staying in it feel the presence of the surrounding trees more than anything else. Floor-to-ceiling windows dominate the room. It is light-filled and lovely–an enchanting place to begin a marriage.

You could go to Paris for your honeymoon, but then you’d feel like you were obligated to visit the Louvre, the Centre Pompidou, and Montmartre. You’d be tourists, not newlyweds.

Nestled in the Tree-Top Suite of our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast, you will want to spend hours looking up into the trees and down into each others’ eyes. As you listen to the breeze rustling the leaves, you’ll talk about your future and share your most intimate hopes and dreams. Eventually, you’ll venture out to stretch your legs, walk through town, and dine; but you’ll be eager to return to the Tree-Top Suite.

War Eagle Cavern at Beaver Lake

March 13th, 2012
Devil´s Gap

Devil's Gap, as seen from the grounds of War Eagle Cavern.

War Eagle Cavern on Beaver Lake opened for the 2102 season on March 10. The cavern is an amazing place in a beautiful natural setting. Many guests of our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast have enjoyed visiting it.

The Ozark Plateau is home to thousands of caves, and War Eagle Cavern is one of the most spectacular. It sits on the south end of Beaver Lake, not far from Eureka Springs. The cavern is reachable by car and, surprisingly, by boat; the War Eagle Cavern boat dock is close to Devil’s Gap Inlet.

There are many attractions at War Eagle Cavern, both above ground and below. Above ground, visitors may pan for gems at the War Eagle Mining Co. and wander through the Lost in the Woods Maze. Walking trails traverse the grounds, featuring views of Beaver Lake, limestone bluffs, and sinkhole. Smoke Signal Cafe is a good spot to grab a bite to eat in the summer months, and there are many lovely spots to enjoy a picnic and watch for wildlife.

Things start to get really interesting, however, below the surface. The entrance to the cavern is a vast, natural opening that beckons the curious. Hour-long tours lead along wide walkways to spacious caverns, interesting formations, and an underground stream. The tour guides are very knowledgeable about both the history and geology of the cavern. You can even bring your well behaved dog with you.

If the regular tour isn’t enough for you, consider the Spelunker Tour. This isn’t for the faint of heart (or your dog); intrepid spelunkers will get wet and muddy. The reward? Bats, bats, and more bats! Eastern Pipestrelle bats and gray bats live in War Eagle Cavern, and most of them make their home away from the regular tour route.

An excursion to War Eagle Cavern is a wonderful way to connect with nature, and explore it. The cave is cool on hot summer days, and fascinating spring, summer, and fall.

Spring Break Special for Teachers

March 6th, 2012
Spring break special Eureka Springs B&B

Teachers, spend Spring Break at our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast.

Spring is in the air, which means it’s almost time for that wonderful annual tradition, Spring Break. The Eureka Springs School District celebrates Spring Break the week of March 19. Several school districts across the border in Missouri celebrate it the week of March 26, and still others take off the first week of April.

No matter when it falls in the calendar, one thing is certain: Spring Break is a well-deserved holiday for teachers, staff, and students alike.

To show faculty and staff how much we appreciate them, we offer a “School’s out! School’s out!” special at our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast. It is the best way we know to thank you for the hard work you do in preparing tomorrow’s leaders.

The special includes three nights lodging, a gourmet breakfast each morning, and plenty of homemade snacks and beverages throughout the day. In addition, we provide a $25 voucher good towards lunch or dinner at one of Eureka Springs’ six finest eateries, and a 40% discount on a 1 hour couples’ massage.

What you need during Spring Break is rest, relaxation, and a little pampering. Sleep in, and when you wake up, sit down to a delicious breakfast that you didn’t have to prepare. Explore the historic district of Eureka Springs at your leisure. Spend a day at the new Crystal Bridges Museum. Go for a paddle on Beaver Lake. Get a massage. Go horseback riding through the Ozark Mountains. Take a hike through Lake Leatherwood Park. Or bring a couple of really good books and lose yourself in them, emerging only to nibble a cookie and sip tea or wine.

The price of our “School’s out! School’s out!” special varies according to room. Please see Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast Specials for more details.

Beautiful Beaver Lake

February 28th, 2012
Beaver Lake Dam - Open Floodgates

The Beaver Lake Dam.

Our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast is a short drive from one of the most beautiful spots in NW Arkansas: Beaver Lake.

Beaver Lake’s almost 500 miles of shoreline are surrounded by limestone bluffs, hardwood forests, parks, and beaches. The lake itself is a wonderful spot for boating and fishing.

After a gourmet breakfast here at our Eureka Springs Inn, our guests have plenty of energy to explore Beaver Lake hiking trails, paddle a kayak, or spend the day fishing. Dinner at one of Eureka Springs fine restaurants is followed by a relaxing evening back at the inn, the perfect place to recover from a day of activity.

Arkansas weekly fishing reports are the best place to learn what’s biting at Beaver Lake. Head out on your own or contact one of the several fishing guides services that work year round on Beaver Lake, such as Bailey’s Beaver Lake Guide Services or J.T. Crappie Guide Services.

Please see Beaver Lake for additional information about recreation opportunities.

Celebrate the American Spirit at Crystal Bridges Museum

February 23rd, 2012
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

Allow time to visit Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art when next you stay at our Eureka Springs Inn.

We’re excited about Crystal Bridges Museum, which opened in nearby Bentonville last November. Nestled in a lovely natural setting, Crystal Bridges invites visitors to commune with art as much as nature.

Guests wander the trails (more than 3.5 miles of them) that meander through the 120-acre museum site. Trails lead through wetlands, over streams, and around ponds. The art here is nature, though sculptures are scattered throughout the grounds. Walk, bike, or find a peaceful place to sit and admire the view.

Inside the museum, permanent exhibits provide a superb overview of American Art. Crystal Bridges covers the Colonial period, the 19th Century, Modern American Art, and Contemporary American Art. Gaze at portraits of well known figures from our country’s past, such as George Washington. Stand before vast landscapes of the American West. See streetscapes by artists of the Ashcan School, and a good selection of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art.

Current temporary exhibits include The North American Indian, by Edward Curtis, and The Arkansas Traveler, which explores an American folk story that’s an integral part of Arkansas’ mythology. Anyone unfamiliar with this aspect of Arkansas culture should find it intriguing.

Crystal Bridges Museum is approximately 40 miles from our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast. It’s a pleasant drive, whether you travel north of Beaver Lake or south of it.

Dining Out in Eureka Springs

February 17th, 2012

If you’re like us, you enjoy trying new restaurants when you travel. If you are a regular guest at our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast, you probably look forward to visiting your favorite Eureka Springs restaurant while you’re here; we certainly have favorite eateries in every town we frequent. The perennial question for us when we travel to a familiar place is, “Should we try a new restaurant, or stick with what we know is good?”

Life is full of risks, some richly rewarded, some not.

As innkeepers, we are often asked for Eureka Springs restaurant recommendations. See below for our top picks and our guests favorites.

A Month of Romance in Eureka Springs

February 8th, 2012

We think it’s wrong to limit romance to one day a year. While that may not be the intention of Valentine’s Day, for some, it’s as good a reason as any to ration romantic gestures like flowers or chocolates. In order to combat that mentality, we invite you to celebrate Valentine’s Day all month at our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast.

A cozy fire sparks romance in the Monet room.

Our February & Lovers Go Together package includes complimentary beverages, chocolates for two, and a $20 voucher for lunch or dinner at one of Eureka’s finest eateries. We’re also offering a 40% discount on a couples’ massage–one of the best ways to shed tension and relax.

The simple fact that you decide to bring your sweetie to our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast earns big points in the romance department. After all, there is something inherently romantic about our Victorian inn. Maybe it’s our guest rooms, which features fireplaces and whirlpool baths made for two. Maybe it’s peaceful setting, or the gourmet food. Maybe it’s the fact that so many people who stay with us are in love.

Whatever the reason, we invite you to come see for yourself. We’re celebrating Valentine’s Day all month here. Join us.

Chocolate Lovers’ Festival

January 28th, 2012
Chocolate Heaven

Heaven = a fountain of chocolate.

Each February around Valentine’s Day, Eureka Springs hosts a Chocolate Lovers’ Festival. Anyone is welcome, but it’s really for those of us who believe that chocolate is divine.

In 2012, the Eureka Springs Chocolate Lovers’ Festival takes place on Saturday, February 11. Plan to dive into chocolate fountains–or at least dip strawberries and other tasty treats into them. Taste a wide selection of chocolate, from the dense and dark to the sweet and white. There will be chocolate for every palate.

Bring your sweetie and your love of chocolate to our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast the weekend of February 11th, just before Valentine’s Day. It has been said that chocolate is an aphrodisiac. Truth or Fiction? Try it and see.

Baby It’s Cold Outside

January 18th, 2012
Sugar Plum Snowflake

Wish for snow.

The weather’s been kind of crazy this winter here at our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast. One day we’ll have temperatures in the 60s, the next the high will be in the 30s. We pull out our winter coats one day, and wear short sleeves the next. It keeps us on our toes.

We’ve decided to make a game out of this whacky weather through the end of the month of January. If it snows during your stay at our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast, we’ll give you a discount. You’ll receive 10% off for every inch of new snow we receive during your stay (up to 4 inches and 40%).

Guests will also receive a discount if it’s colder than normal. The average January high is 40 degrees. You’ll receive 1% per degree per day: if the high temperature is 38 degrees, you’ll receive 2% off that night. If the high reaches only 35 degrees, you’ll receive 5% off that night. How fun is that?

Remember snow days when you were a child? That amazing feeling of waking up and learning that school was cancelled due to snow? You’d pull on snow gear and run out to play, then warm yourself with cookies and cocoa. Such days were some of the best of winter.

As adults, snow days are a great excuse to curl up with a book, or snuggle with a loved one while watching a movie. We have cocoa, we have cookies. The inn is cozy warm.

Consult the powers that be and make your reservations today; this special ends on January 31, 2012. It’s a gamble, but then so is life. And really, you can’t lose. Either you’ll have a delightful stay in Eureka Springs and balmy weather, or you’ll have a delightful stay in Eureka Springs, cold and snow, and a discount.
