Thursdays “Fun After 5 in Downtown Eureka Springs”

Thursday evenings will be interesting in downtown Eureka Springs for the next 6 weeks and from July 15 through August 12 when you add a Thursday night stay to your weekend you’ll qualify for our special which will make these weeks even more exciting!  The Eureka Springs Downtown Network is working hard to make these festivals fun and give shoppers a chance to explore, play and have FUN after 5 PM!!  Here is the schedule of what is going on for the FUN Thursdays after 5:

May Happenings

May is just around the corner and for those who do not know, Eureka Springs dedicates the entire month of May to the arts.  Lots of special things are happening starting with the Artrageous Parade Saturday, May 1 at 2 PM.  This is a truly interesting parade celebrating Spring, the arts and creativity. Eureka Springs 7th Annual Bluegrass Festival

The Eureka Springs 7th Annual Bluegrass Festival is scheduled for August 20th-23rd and kicks off with a Watermelon Social in Basin Spring Park.  Pack that fiddle, guitar, or just come along to enjoy the Bluegrass Festival!  Watermelon, soft drinks and plenty of bluegrass musical will be available for all and the complete festival will be free of charge.  Now, this is sure to get everyone in Eureka Springs tapping their feet!

Bluegrass weekend officially gets underway with performances on Friday morning in Basin Spring Park continuing through Sunday.  The Eureka Springs Bluegrass Festival features some of the biggest names in Bluegrass music.  This year will include performers such as the Cobb and Williams Families, Ozark Alliance, Buffalo City Ramblers, Dragon Masters and numerous others!   

Rumor has it that they may still be pickin’ until sunrise!  Be sure to share the fun with Arsenic & Old Lace Bed and Breakfast.

Opera in the Ozarks

When visiting Eureka Springs and Arsenic & Old Lace, be sure not to miss Opera in the Ozarks!  Opera in the Ozarks offers productions of some of the world’s best operas, which are performed during the four-week summer opera festival.  The 2009 season starts on June 19th and continues through July 17th.  Opera in the Ozarks is recognized as one of the top ten summer opera festivals in the world. 

 

Opera in the Ozarks is located seven miles west of Eureka Springs.  Located at Inspiration Point, this location is known as one of the most picturesque spots in the south as it is situated at the top of Candy Rock Mountain just between White River Valley and Beaver Lake.  Some of the performances this year will include Hansel & Gretel, Manon, Pagliacci, and more!  All seats for performances are by reservation only, so be sure to arrange this in advance of your visit.     

Eureka Springs Theatrical Production Temperance Tantrums

Going to this production will be great fun! The evening starts with dinner served at 7:00 P.M. and at 8 P.M. the production begins. Not only is Temperance Tantrums historical, it is also very funny. This is a hilarious musical spoof of an 1898 Temperance Rally. It contains music, singing, beautiful Victorian costumes, comedy improvisation, and plenty of audience participation. You can even sing along!

The performance will be held at the Grand Central Hotel and reservations are recommended. Call 800-344-6050 to reserve your space today. One performance will be held each evening May 14th-16th and costs $50.00 per person for the dinner and the show. Have fun!

Fifth Annual Books in Bloom in Eureka Springs

Book lovers unite!  Books in Bloom is having its fifth annual event in Eureka Springs.  This year it is scheduled for Sunday, May 3rd, from 12-5 P.M.  This event brings together accomplished authors, booklovers, and writers.  This is a free event and is presented by the Carroll and Madison Public Library Foundation.  Authors will read their work, make presentations, and sign books.  This year there will be seventeen authors and include such authors as Jack Riggs, Laura Parker Castoro, Jennifer Chiaverini, Marilyn Collins, Billy Higgins, Janis Kearney, Mary Kwas, Mara Leveritt, Robert Mainfort, Jr., Carla Killough McClaffery, Jack Riggs, Jory Sherman, Laura Shoffner, Doug Stowe, Lin Wellford, Eliot Young, and Barbara Youree.  

Bring your favorite book for the author to sign!

Eureka Springs Mustang Show…April 17th-18th

Dust off the Mustang and start your engines!  It is time for the 14th Annual Mustang Show.  If you own a Mustang or thinking about owning one, this is a fun event for all.  The show began in 1994 and has grown even since.  This year also happens to be the 45th anniversary of the Mustang, so this year is sure to be special. 

Everyone is invited to come as spectators and enjoy the weekend.  The show features trophies, cash prizes, dash plaques and a DJ with games and door prizes. The highlight of the show is an hour long parade through tree lined streets past beautiful, meticulously restored Victorian homes, the “Painted Ladies of Eureka Springs” and through the historic business district. The parade route is always lined with spectators cheering on their favorite Mustangs.

Better yet, if you own a Mustang register your car and qualify to win in many exciting categories such as Best of Show, Best Interior, Best Exterior, Best Engine, and if you are part of a club, Best Club Participation.   So…start your engines!

Eureka Springs 13th Annual Antique Show

Eureka Springs in the Spring time?  Let me count the ways…March 20th-22nd is time for the 13th Annual Antique Show.  There will be over fifty-five dealers traveling from 14 states.  The events starts on Friday night with a wine and cheese preview reception starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for the reception are $10 and include admission to the antique show for the rest of the weekend. If you skip the reception and just come to the show, admission is $2.50 for adults; ages 12 years and younger are admitted free of charge.  The show is held at the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks on U.S. 62 West. More than 50 dealers show a variety of large and small antiques.
